Salem Family YMCA Pools

The Salem Family YMCA has been the leader in aquatics programs and education in the Salem community for nearly a century. Our pools are staffed by friendly, certified lifeguards and experienced instructors teach lessons using the YMCA of the USA’s Swim Lesson Guidelines – THE standard in the industry. In addition, our pools are home to a wide variety of aqua fitness classes, leisure and open swim times, plus lap swimming and family swim times.

American Red Cross Lifeguarding Courses

Prepare now for a job as a lifeguard! Course includes Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR/AED certifications valid for two years. The next course will be offered the first two weekends in June, Friday night, Saturday & Sunday. Please see flyer for details. Preregistration over the phone or in person is required, and a registration form must be completed. Strict prequisites apply. Pool Birthday Party Package!

The perfect party for a budget conscious parent. Your child and up to ten guests may swim in our pools during Family Swim time and then use the Youth Activity Center afterwards. What should I wear to swim? May my children swim without me? The answers to these and other frequently asked questions may be found here!

YMCA aquatics programs are held in two pools located in the lower level of the building. The Large Pool is 20 yards long with four lanes and a depth range of four to nine feet. The pool is heated to 82-84 degrees. The Small Pool is 15 yards long by 40 feet wide, and is 3 to 3 1/2  feet deep. The small pool, also known as the warm pool, is heated to 89-91 degrees.

Swim Lessons:

Youth Swim Lessons are offered in five week (two lessons per week) or 10 week (one lesson per week) sessions. During the summer we also offer two week sessions with lessons held Monday – Thursday. Parent/Child Lessons

Parent/Child is the YMCA of the USA program for young children ages 6 months to three years and their parents. Instructors are caring and enthusiastic, placing emphasis on safety, water adjustments, movement, exploration, songs games and fun! An adult accompanies each child into the pool.
$25 member/$45 non-member

Preschool (PERS) Lessons

Pike, Eel, Ray, Starfish (PERS) is the YMCA of the USA’s program for three to five year olds. Children advance through the four levels and can then move up to Progressive Lessons. The teacher/student ratio is 1:5 or better.
$30 member/$60 non-member

Progressive Lessons

This program is for 6 to 14 year olds of all swimming abilities. Children progress through six levels: Polliwog, Guppy, Minnow, Fish, Flying Fish & Shark. The teacher to student ratio is 1:8 or better.

YMCA Sharks Youth Swim Team

Provides kids with instruction on stroke refinement, provides exercise and teaches kids about teamwork. The Sharks swim team also provides kids with the chance to make friends and build self-esteem. For boys and girls ages six and up. Tryouts are not required, but pre-requisites apply.

  • Novice: $40 member/$65 non-member
  • Intermediate-Advanced: $45 member/$70 non-member

Wet-n-Wild

A class for special populations designed to accommodate individual needs with an emphasis on health, fitness, self-esteem and having FUN!

Private Lessons

Get one-on-one instruction with one of our experienced instructors. Offered in 30 minute sessions.
$15 member/$25 non-member

Semi-Private Lessons

Instruction for two students of similar ability in a 30 minute session.
$22.50 member/$37.50 non-member (price listed includes both students)
